Welcome back. We are so excited to be back on campus and ready to take on an exciting new year here at The University. It is our pleasure to welcome the Class of 2017 into the Scranton community. And for all those returning to Scranton, we are glad to see you back on campus and hope you are as excited as we are for the upcoming year. It is an honor to be able to serve the student body as Student Government president and vice president for the 2013-2014 school year. As most of you already know, and the Class of 2017 will soon find out, The University is a very special place. As your president and vice president, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to make this already amazing University even better over the 2013-14 school year.
Student Government and your student-elected senators are a resource for you. We are involved in a wide range of events that take place here on campus, from Midnight Madness to Street Sweep. Want to start a new club? Student Government is the place to go. Have an idea you think would be great for The University? Tell your senator and get started on making those ideas a reality. Student Government is your conduit for making this University even better than it already is. Every senator is more than happy to work with you. Our core tenants of efficiency, advocacy and transparency will guide all our actions. And those actions will be in support of you and the entire University. We look forward to working together and continuing to improve our University.
This year is extra special for The University as we celebrate our 125th anniversary. Through all these years, The University has continued to grow not only in size, but also in its commitment to service, in its care for students and in its commitment to excellence.
One of our goals for this anniversary year is to increase communication among the student body, Student Government and administration. As leaders of the student body, we should be advocates for you. To do that effectively, we need to know what you want. For that reason, we will be using new ways to communicate with every single student. A lot of what we do comes from one of our school’s mantras: Pride, Passion, Promise. We take pride in saying we go to The University because of all the wonderful people, experiences and opportunities that iAt has to offer. We have passion for what we do and we will put that passion to work for you. Finally, we promise to be advocates for every single student at The University. AMDG.
