Welcome back! We are finally on campus for the fall 2014 semester. As the leaves turn amber and the nights get cooler, our campus community is elated to welcome the newest Royals, the members of the class of 2018.

Both of us are honored to serve The University as Student Government president and vice president for the 2014-2015 academic year. We are thrilled to make this already amazing niversity even better over the coming year.

During our presidential campaign last May, we thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many friendly faces in the dorms, on the Commons and throughout the academic buildings. The comments we heard on the campaign trail have been taken to heart and have inspired the initiatives that are in the works for this year.

On that note, we would like to emphasize that Student Government is here for you. The senators you elected are your most valuable resource for starting a new club or taking an initiative to the next level. Have a club you think would be a great addition to the campus? Find one of your representatives with whom to discuss it. Have an idea you think would improve campus life? Tell your senator and get started on making those ideas a reality. Student Government is your conduit for making this university even better than it already is. Every senator is more than happy to work with you.

The two of us have found a second home here in the Electric City, and we hope that you feel equally as connected to this campus during your time here. Opportunities to get involved beyond your coursework are plentiful. We encourage you to find something you’re passionate about and join an organization that will edify you spiritually and emotionally.

We hope to bridge the communication gap between students and administrators over our term. We will accomplish this not only by serving as advocates for our fellow classmates, but also by bolstering the existing ties between the Student Senate and the other governing bodies at The University. If we increase communication among the Student Senate, Faculty Senate and Staff Senate, the issues that are brought up in one group can inform decisions made in the other groups. Additionally, we will build the foundations of RoyalSync that have been established. This versatile platform is on the cusp of evolving into your “go-to” location for all things Student Government-related.

We take pride in saying we go to The University because of all the wonderful people, experiences and opportunities that it has to offer. Our passion is to keep that legacy going, and we will put that passion to work for you. AMDG.
