NFL football is back, and the fans on campus are mostly distraught after week two. There was a survey conducted amongst forty-one people at The University to determine which team had the most fans. The New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles are the two highest represented teams on campus based on the data collected. Giants fans represented 34.09 percent of the people surveyed, while the Eagles fans represent 20.45 percent, respectively.

The Baltimore Ravens follow in third place at 9.09 percent. Ironically, all three teams mentioned are 0-2 to start the season. The poll then portrayed a tie between fans of the New York Jets, New England Patriots and Washington Redskins at 6.81 percent. As many in the student body are aware, the Patriots are the reigning Super Bowl Champions.

Another annual contender is listed as the next most popular team on campus. This team was the Green Bay Packers who are credited with 4.54 percent of the voting. The last five teams mentioned as a favorite team were chosen by one person each 2.27 percent. These teams include the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, San Diego Chargers and the St. Louis Rams.

It was surprising to see such a low percentage for Steelers and Cowboys fans, because these teams are arguably the most popular in the country. As a result, it is more than likely that there are many more Steelers and Cowboys fans at The University other than the data shows. Overall, The University has a diverse fan base, which makes Sundays even more enjoyable.

As we mentioned earlier, the top three popular teams from the poll are struggling. The Giants cannot seem to get out of their own way at the end of a game. They have given up two games with 10 point leads in the last two weeks. Eli Manning is the major figure at fault for these two collapses. The Giants need a few key injured players to return, such as middle linebacker Jon Beason and wide receiver Victor Cruz, in order to play better. They showed the NFL that they can compete with two contenders, so we will see if they can respond on Thursday night against the Washington Redskins.

Meanwhile, the Eagles seem to be falsely advertised thus far. They had a lot of Super Bowl hype coming into the year, but their offense has struggled and their defense has been shaky. The “genius” Chip Kelly looks far from a genius at this point. Their marquee addition has had fewer than 20 rushing yards the past two weeks combined. The Eagles are coming off a lackluster performance against a bitter division rival, the Dallas Cowboys. They play the New York Jets this Sunday, needing a victory in order to keep their season alive.

The Green Bay Packers are currently 2-0. They beat the Chicago Bears in week one with ease. They also just won a huge game at home against a new heated rival in the Seattle Seahawks. It was a rematch of the NFC Championship from last year, in which Green Bay collapsed down the stretch of the game. Green Bay won the game 27-17. As long as Aaron Rodgers remains healthy, this team appears to be the team to beat in the NFC, even without Jordy Nelson who tore his ACL in the preseason.

The New England Patriots have started out their season in Championship form. Tom Brady is not showing his age. He appears to be as dominant as ever. The Patriots have started the year at 2-0. They have beaten the Steelers and Bills during the first two weeks of the season. They seem to be the best team in the league at this point.
The New York Jets are the team that might give the Patriots their biggest test in the AFC East. The Jets have begun the season in impressive style. They have beaten the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts, handily. They made Andrew Luck look really bad on Monday night this week. They are easily the biggest surprise of the young NFL season. It will be exciting to see if they can keep it up.

The Washington Redskins are 1-1. They are a team that has issues within the organization. Regardless of these problems , their steady defense and solid offense have found a way to get them to 1-1. In week 1 they lost to the Dolphins and in week two they beat the St. Louis Rams. They face the New York Giants Thursday night in New Jersey, which gives them a chance to put a lethal blow to the Giants season. If they can stay healthy and play solid football, they can be contenders to win the NFC East. The division is so weak that any team can come away with it by year’s end.

The Pittsburgh Steelers opened up week one in New England and lost to the Super Bowl Champs. They responded with an impressive victory against the depleted San Francisco 49ers Sunday. The Steelers are a team to keep an eye on, because they can make things interesting at the end of the year. They are a serious AFC contender to reach the Super Bowl.

The Dallas Cowboys entered the season with high expecations. They lost in the divisional round of the playoffs last year to the Packers on a controversial call. However, the week before, they won on a similar call against the Lions to advance into the next round.

This year they are battling big time injuries to their star players. Dez Bryant broke a toe while playing against the Giants in week one. In week two, Tony Romo broke his clavicle in a victory against the Eagles. The Cowboys remain 2-0 overall and in their division, but their season might be in jeopardy if those players do not come back soon.
